All beers that are tagged “AlphaBeer VIII” and “Chef Jill Houk” are from that tasting, and the notes are hers.

Young’s Double Chocolate Stout

This beer has “double chocolate” in its name. Do we need to say more? Didn’t think so.

Southern Tier Iniquity

Southern Tier IniquitySouthern Tier’s Iniquity is a deep, dark trouble-making brew. Don’t take our word for it; the brewery says they named it for the opposite of goodness. “Allow the darkness to consume you,” they say. And at 9% ABV that’s a distinct possibility! It’s got a heavy chocolate and hoppy aroma and tastes like thick coffee with a kick. If this is bad, we don’t want to be good.

Youngs Dirty Dicks Ale

This has a high level of crystal malt, and delivers a full mellow flavor with caramel malts. It has a traditional English are smell and strong brown ale taste, but is fairly smooth going down. The beer is named for Young’s pub in Bishopsgate London, England. Young’s & Company Brewery was founded in 1831 by Charles Young and Anthony Bainbridge when they purchased the Ram Brewery in Wandsworth. The brewery is now a combined venture with Charles Wells Brewery and is Wells and Young’s Brewing Company Ltd.

Arcadia Whitsun Ale

Arcadia Whitsun is a modern interpretation of a mid-19th century English spring and summer festival ale. It is light golden in color with a rich, creamy head, full bodied and has a lightly toasted caramel flavor. The addition of Michigan star thistle honey contributes a uniquely smooth drinkability to this unfiltered wheat ale. It is a wheat style ale brewed at Arcadia Brewing Company in Battle Creek, MI. Hey isn’t that where Wheaties come from?
